"Tunstall delivers knockout blow, Knights handle Sabers 12-7"

by GDFL Media

Tacoma,Washington-With Sabers starting QB Gavin Vradenburg exiting early due to injury and the Knights dealing with injuries of their own, Jordan Tunstall helped deliver the knockout blow on a short 2-yd scamper into the end zone in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter, helping the Grit City Knights beat the Tacoma Sabers 12-7 Saturday.

The Knights (2-3) get their second win in three games and first ever win at Bonney Lake HS. They will travel there again next weekend to face the Washington Warriors.

Knights QB Ezekiel Reynolds was picked twice but also threw a touchdown on an otherwise pretty efficient performance. Sabers WR Isaiah Devane scored the Sabers lone touchdown, turning a short pass into a 40 yard dash into the endzone. Other than that, Grit City's defense handled Tacoma's depleted offense for most of the afternoon.

Commenting on the victory, WR/DB Cason Watson was ecstatic, "Shoutout to the our hogs, man! Like coach said, 'without y’all man we can’t do [anything].' But for real, though, I’m so proud of this team and each and everybody... because we played like the Knights we always knew we were!"

Interim head coach Kiki Williams seconded that sentiment in her post-game comments, "Y'all did this! I left that [field] on a high I’ve never felt before. Y’all came and really had fun and played for each other. This is what we build on... the energy was on point, your attitudes were on point, and the respect for your coaches and each other were on point. As much as y’all work my nerves sometimes... I wouldn’t trade none of you guys. Thank you guys for showing up and showing out!"

While the Knights' defense held the Saber's star WR Brian Garner without a catch, the Sabers did find some life in the run game behind Stefan "Juice" Branham. His over 100yds rushing would not be enough, unfortunately, as the Sabers slowly watched their early 7 point lead slip away.

The Tacoma Sabers go into their bye week sitting at an even 3-3. They look to bounce back when they host the Rebels at home on July 30th. The Grit City Knights, meanwhile, may have reclaimed Tacoma for the moment but face an uphill battle against the nationally ranked Washington Warriors. That game will take place this weekend at 5pm at Bonney Lake high school and will be streamed on SeeGame.Live for those who can't attend in person.
