TIGERS SNATCH VICTORY
San Jacinto, CA– Soboba’s Oaks Stadium was the setting for the host Mecca Town Bulldogs traveling from San Diego to welcome the Santa Clarita Valley Tigers in a tight defensive Battle that saw huge momentum swings for both team as the Tigers came out on top in a thriller 18-14.
The host Bulldogs would score first on a Safety, sacking Tigers QB Jermel Woods in the End Zone with 3:44 left in the 2nd Quarter to go up 2-0.
Santa Clarita would answer with 6:51 remaining in the 3rd Quarter with a 2-yard run from QB Woods to go up 8-2.
With 4:10 to play in the 3rd Quarter Mecca Town RB Jahil Johnson would find pay dirt from 6 yards out to tie it up at 8-8.
But on the ensuing 2-point try the Bulldogs would fumble and the loose ball would be picked up for a scoop-and-score by Tigers DB Kenny Suber 98 yards to the house to give Santa Clarita a 10-8 lead.
In the 4th Quarter with 4 minutes to play Mecca Town QB Daron Martin would find WR Zekyle Stockdale from 43 yards out to take the lead 14-10.
In a dramatic finish Santa Clarita would recover another Bulldogs fumble and return it deep into Mecca Town territory at the 5-yard line where the Offense would capitalize with a 5-yard TD run from QB Woods to re-take the lead 18-14 with just 1:23 to play in the contest.
The Tigers would gamble with an onside kick and recover it to bleed down the clock to just 10 seconds remaining in the game. On the Punt back to the Bulldogs it would be muffed and Santa Clarita would recover the fumble and run out the clock for the win.
The Santa Clarita Tigers move to 2-1 and the Mecca Town Bulldogs fall to 0-1 in spring 2021 GDFL play.
