Syracuse NY - There has been a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding the start of the first round of the GDFL National Playoffs and the two teams that met for battle in Syracuse, New York did not disappoint.

The #4 nationally ranked Syracuse Strong played host to the very tough Baltimore Lightning in what turned out to be quite the football-chess match.

The Strong struck first early on in the first quarter when the Strong defense pushed the Baltimore offense back into the end zone, resulting in a tackle for a safety by Strong Defensive Back, DP Crowell.

After the safety a defensive struggle ensued leading to a halftime score of just 2 - 0 in favor of the Strong.

We were late in the 3rd quarter when GDFL All Pro Running Back and two time, back to back GDFL rushing title holder, Rashad Burns punched it into the end zone from about 6 yards out. Kicker Tom Stadnicki kicked the extra point, bringing the score to 9 - 0 in favor of the Strong.

The Strong would put points on the board once more after battling a stingy Baltimore defense, when Kicker Tom Stadnicki would boot a 34 yard field goal.

Rashad Burns would finish the game with 165 yards rushing on 33 Carries. Strong Linebacker EJ Maeweather finished the game with 12 tackles, 3 of which were for losses and one forced fumble. Free Safety Jeff Mcduffie grabbed 2 interceptions.
