Rebels hang on to defeat Buzzards 34-32

by GDFL Media

Spanaway, WA-South Lane Buzzards traveled to Spanaway, WA this past weekend, for their final road game of the regular season and left with a close 32-34 loss against the #3 Nationally Ranked West Sound Rebels (6-0). The saying “travel remains undefeated” in pro development football was put to the test as the Buzzards held the lead late in the game but, ultimately couldn’t hold on. There are no moral victories to be taken here, but the short-handed Buzzards squad gave everything they had and almost pulled of the major upset before falling to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in GDFL play.

Buzzards QB Ryan Jones started the game well until getting knicked up early in the 3rd Quarter and backup Adam Kruse came in to keep the Buzzard offense moving. The QB’s combined for 18 of 36 for 226 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Veteran Safety Dakota Mathis collected 2 interceptions on the afternoon, holding down the defensive backfield. First year Buzzard Kyle Kramer was asked to step up in all three phases of the game, and he did just that. Kramer hauled in a pass for a 2-point conversion at WR, played solid defense at DB and averaged 44.5 yards per punt on special teams. Other standout performances on the day include: Jaleel Stancil 66 total yards and 1 Rushing TD, Leon Ireland 1 Rushing TD, Michael Hightower 6 Total Tackles, and Josh Cline 4 Total Tackles.
