Playoff Preview: Columbus Fire vs Huntsville Rockets

Huntsville,Alabama-This week, the first round of the GDFL National Playoffs will have a remarkable matchup between the (6-2) Huntsville Rockets and the (6-2) Columbus Fire. This will be first match-up between two teams that have a reputation as top tier teams. 

The first year of the merger between two down-south power houses has been difficult so far between the Huntsville Rockets and the River City Pythons, but both Coach Nick Benjamin and Coach Derek Baker feel that their team is hitting their stride at the right moment. “I feel that we are moving in the right direction to really make this something special.

We have some very talented players in this area, and we feel like this was the right time to bring it all together to not only win some football games, but to build a reputable organization”, said Benjamin.  “This will be a test for our team. This will be a big step moving forward, but first, we have to focus on the task at hand and that’s taking care of business in the playoffs”, added Coach Baker.

The Rockets and the Fire are evenly matched with an identical 6-2 record on the year. The Rockets look to continue their defensive dominance. Only giving up 50 pts on the year, makes them the second strongest defense in the entire league.

The Columbus fire look to stifle the Rocket offense with a stingy front seven led by several GDFL Pro-Bowl Participants. This matchup is sure to be one for the books and one that will set the tone for the road to Gridiron Bowl 2022.
