Obie throws 5 Touchdowns to Lead Inglewood to 38-23 Opening Weekend Victory

by GDFL Media

PHOENIX, AZ (May 22, 2023) -- Inglewood opened up their 2023 GDFL season this past weekend in Arizona and came away with a resounding 38-23 victory over the host Roadrunners. Arizona drew first blood when they scored on a 17 yard pass and catch to go up 7-0. Inglewood answered back two possessions later when DE Travis Taylor stopped a Arizona ball carrier in the end-zone for a safety to make the score 7-2 Arizona.
After that, QB Les Obie took charge as he threw five touchdowns to four different receivers. Obie finished the day 25 of 43 for 363 yards 5 TD's and 2 INT's. WR Vincent Strange Jr led all receivers with 10 receptions for 107 yards 1 TD and two 2 point conversions. Rookie receiver Zach Fields II looked amazing as he had 4 receptions for 76 yards 2 TD's to lead all receivers in touchdowns on the day. WR's Marco Abbott (4 rec. 93 yards 1 TD) and Rookie Jared Colston-Green (5 rec. 80 yards 1 TD and one 2 pt conversion) both put on phenomenal performances that kept Arizona off balance the entire night.

Defensively the Blackhawks were led by the linebacking duo of Mikell Mair and Devin Jones who made their presence felt with some jaw-dropping hits on Roadrunner running backs. Late in the second quarter, Mair put a solid hit on the Arizona quarterback that took him out for a couple of series.
DT Chris Benson played great as well as he contentiously throughout the game demanded double and triple teams which opened up gaps for both Jones and Mair. Safeties Jordan Wilmore and Brian Flowers Jr. both chipped in with some big hits that kept Arizona players on the turf periodically. DB Tray Watson showed why he's one of Southern California's premier defensive backs as he did very well from the secondary too.

Inglewood will now take on the Lancaster Mustangs on Saturday, June 3rd in their 2023 Home Opener. Kickoff will be at 6PM at Jackie Robinson Stadium. For ticket and game info go to www.blackhawkfootball.com.
