by Rommel Thorpe

GDFL ADD THIER 31ST CHAMPION!!!  No other league has ever added this many Champions in the history of minor league football. “There is no doubt, that when you talk about championship football you have to mention the GDFL”. said League Chief Executive Officer Charles Thompson.

Copley,Ohio-After a season of adversity( lost uniforms and moving home field because of a field upgrade.) The silverbacks can add a special name to their season... CHAMPIONS.

In a packed house at copley stadium on their brand new beautiful turf. The silverbacks defended the jungle in dramatic fashion. The game started off chippy in pregame well before the first whistle when words were exchanged between the two teams at the 50-yard line during pregame stretches.

The storm won the toss and received the opening kickoff. Two plays into the drive silverback defensive back Eric Wilson intercepted a pass and turned it into six points for the silverbacks. A two-point conversion gave the silverbacks an early 8-0 lead. The storm would not go away quietly as they drove down on their next drive for a td to make it a 8-6 game late in the first. Early in the second quarter quarterback Will Mixon found receiver lefty may who turned a 10 route into a 60-yard touchdown to put the game at 14-6. Drives between the two teams stalled going into halftime.

In the second half the stormed battled back scoring two touchdowns to take the lead 18-14, but a blocked storm extra point returned for two points by Kam Rubin cut the lead to 18-16 in favor of the storm. Late in the third quarter will Mixon led a drive capped off by him finding Savin Sibley in the endzone.

The storm would score two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter but would only convert one extra point attempt. The final silverback touchdown came when Mixon found Benji Rogers in the back of the endzone. With 90+yards to go on the final drive the storm drove as far as they could, but came up short on 4th and 15 which resulted in a turnover on downs and gave the silverbacks the ball for the victory formation.

"It was an amazing game the Storm came to play and it was a 4 quarter battle.. our defense was tested our offense was tested but we finished strong and came out Champs"[Jimmy Melton]

As the teams shook hands at the 50, silverback fans stormed the field in college upset fashion to greet the players. After shaking hands with the storm. The trophy was presented to the owners Donna(mama) and Christopher(pops) foster. On their anniversary this was no better gift to give than to see them raise their first league championship trophy in team history. The silverbacks finish their season with a 14-3 overall record and a championship banner.

Fans, players, coaches, and owners alike shed a few tears of joy as the field was filled with fans, family, and young children in celebration with the players and staff.
