LIGHTNING COME UP SHORT AGAINST ERIE IN INSTANT CLASSIC!
“This was probably one of the best football games I’ve been a part of,” says Lightning GM Will Hanna.
This game was billed as a face off of two of the best quarterbacks in the country Erie’s Brandon Hanna and Baltimore’s Terron Page and neither would disappoint.
The Express would go up 14-0 in the first quarter. Page would respond and throw a 55-yard touchdown pass to WILL FEDD, but right before halftime, Hanna would throw another touchdown to put Erie up 21-6 at halftime and the same score at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Lightning would get a spark at the beginning of the 4th. A pooch-punt by Hanna would go directly to Lightning’s star cornerback, MEKHAI MCINTOSH who did what he normally does with the ball in his hand, returned it for a 60-yard touchdown. The Bolts would miss a very important 2-point conversion.
Express 21, Lightning 12
Page would hit the century mark in rushing. A questionable non-touchdown call as Page stretched the ball past the goal line would be huge as on the ensuing play, Delontai Bruton dropped a pass in the end zone that would be tipped to an Erie defender.
“Huge momentum swing, huge. We’ve been good at those moments all season.” -Will Hanna
The Lightning would score 20 points in the 4th quarter and missed a two point conversion that would’ve tied the game.
“My guys showed me something today. We play until the final whistle. Though we lost a tough game on the road and down big in the fourth, we never stopped playing and that’s Lightning football.” Adds Hanna.
Baltimore will face Pittsburgh this Saturday and can clinch their first GDFL playoff berth with a win.
