Lexington Red Dragons Enter GDFL

by Gridiron Media

Lexington, Kentucky – The Gridiron Development Football League (GDFL) is proud to announce the addition of the Lexington Red Dragons which marks the twentieth new member for the 2018 season.

The Red Dragons will compete in the GDFL Xtreme North Division currently made up of the Kentucky Trojans (Paris, Ky), Louisville Kings (Louisville, Ky), Western Kentucky Thoroughbreds (Paducah, Ky), and the Tri-City Outlaws (Clarksville, TN).

While 2018 will mark the team’s inaugural season, the Red Dragons have a base roster of experienced players from Lexington and feel confident that they can challenge for honors of a national title.

“We are excited about this opportunity to play in the GDFL.  This league offers us a unique opportunity to be a part of a brand name league that’s professionally ran and that is easily recognizable to anyone in the professional development football world,” said owner Ryan Stark, “our players have all been asking for this for some time now and with the addition of several regional teams, we can make that happen.  We have had players driving up as far away as 4 hours away just to play for our franchise.  It’s time to bring it home to Lexington.”

Stark is joined by Board Members, Michael Chandler and Mark Wright in running the team and all

three are excited about joining the GDFL. “Everyone involved in pro development football knows how

competitive the GDFL is and we can’t wait to be a part of that,” noted Chandler.  “We look forward to represent our city and put Lexington, Kentucky on the GDFL map,” added Wright.

Red Dragon football started in the fall of 2017 by the current owner, Ryan Stark.  Ryan, who is a Lexington resident, saw that adult athletes in the Lexington area were traveling sometimes up to 4 hours one way to play competitive football every weekend.  He wanted to be able to allow local players to take pride in representing the great city of Lexington by playing football at a very high level here at home.  He saw that athletes wanted to be able to also develop their skills, get film, and possibly play at another level of football which may be arena football, overseas, CFL, or quite possibly even get a call up to the NFL.  After much study of the pro development world, making a few contacts overseas, and consultation with a marketing team, the Red Dragon Football program was formed.
