COVINA, Calif. (April 24, 2021) -- In a game that was billed as the, "Game of the Week", the host Inglewood Blackhawks came out victorious as they defeated the So. Cal Coyotes by the score of 14-11 Saturday nigh at Covina District Stadium. The fans got more than they can handle as both teams slugged it out until the very end. Inglewood jumped out to a 14-0 lead as QB Robert Fuller Sr threw passing touchdowns to WR Billy Jordan and RB Donte Turner. Fuller finished the game 11 of 23 for 129 yards and 2 TD's. RB's Jayson Allmond and Dezhoentay Fletcher had good timely runs to keep the run game intact. Inglewood looked to build on their 14-0 lead after a Cory Butler interception in the endzone in which he went out the back of the endzone after the interception but the officials called it a safety making the score 14-2.
The officials later came over and apologized to Blackhawk General manager John Colca as they realized they made a mistake. So. Cal got on the board again with another safety as a snap went over the punters head and out of the endzone again making the score 14-4. The Blackhawks defense dominated the rest of the game led by DB Shaine Boyle (2 INT's), DB Mark English (5 tkls, 5 PBU), and LB Devin Jones (5 tkles) who all made big plays throughout the contest. Inglewood dropped 5 passes that should have easily been interceptions. But here is where the plot thickens as So. Cal had other ideas. With 1:43 left in the ame and the score 14-4, the lights went out in the stadium which halted the game for 15 minutes until they came back on.
After the field was illuminated again and on the first play, the Coyotes scored on a 35 yard reception making the score 14-11 after the PAT. On the ensuing kickoff, the Coyotes kicked an onside kick in which they recovered with no timeouts left. They drove down to the Blackhawk 26 yard line and on 2nd and 10, DB Devin Gage intercepted a Michael Karls pass to end the game. Final score, Blackhawks 14 Coyotes 11. "We got out here with the win and I'm happy for our guys" stated Blackhawk head coach Tony Reid. Tonight was literally our 2nd day in full pads and to defeat a team the caliber of the Yotes speak volumes. Coach miller has a great team over there and I'm sure we'll see them again doen the road somewhere. With the win Inglewood moves to 2-0 while the Coyotes go to 1-1.
