(COVINA VALLEY) - The six-time champion SoCal Coyotes have dedicated their 2021 season to former defensive end Devin Howard, who passed away from cancer in December at age 29.

In memory, Coyotes’ all-time sack leader Jake Sheffield wore Howard’s famed #69 for the final time in last Saturday’s game, while a special #69 decal was added to every Coyote helmet.

In a special ceremony at an upcoming Coyote home game (to be announced), Howard’s jersey and uniform will officially be retired, and presented to his family.

The Coyotes have begun plans for the “Never Give Up” Devin Howard Scholarship Fund. It will be given annually to a deserving player who most portrays Howard’s relentless spirit, poise and determination.

Wearing 69, Sheffield recorded his 91st sack, extending his franchise record.
