"Fast and Furious" Blackhawk Defense Lead to 42-0 Victory over the Lancaster Mustangs
INGLEWOOD, Calif--The Inglewood Blackhawks improved their record 2-0 with a 42-0 victory over the visiting Lancaster Mustangs Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Blackhawks were led by a strong defensive effort which kept the Mustangs off track for most of the day. The defense held Lancaster to a total of 76 total yards on the day. The defense was led a duo of edge rushers who helped account for 9 sacks on the day. The defense was led by rookie DE Derrick Nubia who had an amazing day with 5 tackles 4 TFL, and 4 sacks.
With his performance, he was voted as the, "Gumbo Boys" Player of the Game. "I knew we had something special with Nubia when he first arrived in camp by his demeanor in practice" stated defensive coordinator Tim Lane. DE Clinton Greenaway had an outstanding game as well leading the team with 7 tackles, 3 TFL, and 2 sacks. His consistent pressure had Lancaster quarterbacks on the move all day. LB Devin Jones plugged the middle up and also chipped in on the defensive scoring with a safety in the first quarter. DB Travon Watson continues to play lights out as he scored on the defensive side of the ball with a 43 yard pick six to seal the deal in the fourth quarter. DB Derrick Smith Jr. also scored on the defensive side of the ball with a 49 yard scoop and score for a touchdown.
