Express Xtreme North Division Champs

Erie,PA-With today's 56-28 victory over the Cleveland Cobras, the Express have captured the Xtreme North Division Championship outright and remain undefeated on the season at 7-0. This is the second season in a row the Express have been crowned champions of their division after winning the Xtreme East Division last season.

The Cobras won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Erie received the opening kickoff and scored on their first series of the game when QB Brandon Hanna found WR Corey McWilliams on a 10 yard pass then again for the 2 point try. Erie led 8-0 12:35 1st quarter. The Cobras fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Shannon Jackson recovered it for the Express. Hanna would then find WR Terry Jackson on a 27 yard scoring pass, the 2pt try was no good to extend Erie's lead 14-0 12:13 of the first quarter. The Cobras would put together a scoring drive on their next possession on a 1 yard QB keep, the 2pt try was no good making it 14-6 in favor of Erie with 3:55 to play ion the first. Hanna would find WR Koran Williams on a 50 yard pass to answer the Cobras score, the 2pt try was no good making it 20-6 2:56 of the 1st. LB Cam Sanders intercepted the Cobras on their next series but Erie fumbled the ball right back to them on the very next play. The first quarter would end with Erie leading 20-6.

The Cobras would score on a 2yd run with the 2pt try was good. Erie's lead was cut to 20-14 8:00 of the second quarter. Hanna would find McWilliams again this time from 12yds out. Hanna ran the 2pt conversion in to make the score 28-14 1:51 2nd. LB Glen Conner would force a fumble on a strip sack of the Cobras QB. The fumble was recovered by DL Chuck Wilson to end the half with Erie up 28-14.

DB Brandon Akins scored the first points of the second half on a 35yd punt return, the 2pt try was no good and Erie extended their lead 34-14, 11:56 3rd. Akins would find the end zone again on Erie's next possession on a 20yd run. Hanna to WR Matt Oggletree for the 2pt try to make the score 42-14, 6:42 3rd. The Cobras would score on an amazing 44yd pass play where both the Express DB Marlon Tyree and the Cobras WR had possession of the ball in the end zone. Tyree came up with it but the Cobras were awarded the TD. The 2pt try was no good making the score 42-20 4:38 3rd. With :10 remaining in the third quarter Express RB Bud Brown would score from 1yd out. Hanna to Terry Jackson for the 2pt try to put Erie up 50-20 to end the third quarter.

The Cobras would score on a ten yard pass with the 2pt try being good making it 50-28. Hanna would score the final points of the game on a 2yd run with the 2pt try being no good to give is the final of 56-28 in favor of Erie.

Cam Sanders recorded an interception for the Express, Glen Conner, Charlie Hamilton and Gage Arrington recorded sacks with Shannon Jackson and Chuck Wilson each recording a fumble recovery.
