Express Unstoppable!!

Erie,PA-The Express move to 5-0 on the season after their 57-6 victory over the visiting Howard Huskies. The Huskies won the toss and deferred to the second half. The Huskies held and Erie was forced to punt on their first possession of the game. The punt forced the Huskies deep and an errant snap on their first play put them at the 1 yard line. On the next play Express LB Mike McKinnon caused then recovered the Huskies fumble in the end zone for the first score of the game.

 Jeremy Ditzler added the extra point and Erie led 7-0, 8:30 of the first quarter. Erie's Cam Sanders recovered Ditzler's onside kick. Shannon Jackson scored from 1 yard out with Ditzler adding the extra point to put Erie up 14-0 to end the first quarter.

Express QB Brandon Hanna would connect with Corey McWilliams at the 11:08 mark of the 2nd quarter, Ditzler kick good. Erie led 21-0. Ditzler would connect on a 30 yard FG with 6:32 remaining in the half to put Erie up 24-0. 

Hanna then found Koran Williams on a 28yd TD pass, Ditzler kick good 4:15 to play in the half with Erie leading 31-0. 

With :18 remaining in the half Hanna would again find McWilliams on a 31 yard TD pass, Ditzler kick good to take us to the half with Erie leading 38-0.

The third quarter was rather quiet on the scoreboard until Hanna found Terry Jackson with 1:46 remaining in the third on a 13 yard TD pass, Ditzler kick was good making the score 45-0 where the score would remain to end the third.

Hanna again connected with Jackson on an 8yd TD pass with 8:01 remaining, the 2 pt try was no good making the score 51-0 Erie. The Huskies would find the end zone with 3:48 remaining in the game, the 2 point try was no good making the score 51-6 in favor of Erie. The final score of the game came when Mike Witherow found Antonio Batista on a 90 yard pass. The 2 point try was no good to give us the final score of 57-6.

Keyvon Silveus, Charlie Hamilton and Ricky Barnes all recorded sacks for the Express.


PLAYER ACCOLADES 

  • Congratulations to DL-Glen Conner on being named the Erie Bank Sports Park Defensive Player of the Week. In our 57-6 victory over the Howard Huskies, Glen recorded a team high 7 tackles including 3 tackles for loss (-39yds). Glen and the Express defense held the Huskies to 53 total yards of offense. This is the third time this season Glen has been named DPOW. GREAT JOB GLEN!!
  • Congratulations to K-Jeremy Ditzler on being named the Erie Bank Sports Park Special Teams Player of the Week. In our 57-6 victory over the Howard Huskies, Ditzler connected on a 34 yard FG, was 6/6 on PAT's, had an onside kick recovered and recorded 1 punt for 23 yards. This is the fourth time this season Jeremy has earned this award
  • Congratulations to WR-Corey McWilliams on being named the Erie Bank Sports ParkOffensive Player of the Game. In out 57-6 victory over the Howard Huskies, Coreyhauled in 6 catches for 146 yards and a pair of TD's. For the season McWilliams has 29 receptions for 608 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 2pt conversions. GREAT JOB COREY!!
  • Congratulations to WR-Corey McWilliams on being named the Erie Bank Sports Park Breakout Performance of the Week. In out 57-6 victory over the Howard Huskies, Corey hauled in a season high 6 catches for 146 yards and a pair of TD's. For the season McWilliams has 29 receptions for 608 yards, 9 touchdowns and 4 2pt conversions (GDFL stats 19rec 422yds 8tds 2pt x3) Corey and the Express offense out gained the Huskies 469 to 53 in total offense. GREAT JOB COREY!! 

Erie will be on the road next week to face the 3-1 Pittsburgh Saints. Kickoff is set for 5pm at JC Stone Field in McCandless, PA. Admission is $5 with children 16 and under FREE.
