Express Beat Cobras 42-17 in Third Annual Covato Classic

Erie,PA-Erie Express move to 4-0 on the season after today's 42-17 victory over the visiting Cleveland Cobras in the third annual Covato Classic. The Express jumped out early after quarterback Brandon Hanna connected with Terry Jackson from 9 yards out with Jeremy Ditzler adding the extra point to make the score 7-0 Erie. 

Defensive Back Ashton Jones intercepted a Cobras pass putting the Express in great position. Jansen Jones found the end zone from 6 yards out, Ditzler kick, and the Express led it 14-0 with 10:33 to go in the first. With the Cobras pinned deep on their next possession linebacker Tony D'Albora intercepted the second Cobras pass of the game again putting the Express in great position to score. Javon Rowan took the hand off from Hanna and scored from 3 yards out, Ditzler kick, to put the Express ahead 21-0 with 3:05 to go in the first. Rowan scored again this time through the air on a 22yd pass from Hanna, Ditzler kick, making it 28-0 Express with 12:31 to go in the first half. 

The Cobras kicked a field goal right before the half to make the score 28-3 at halftime. The second half was a wet one with neither team having much success moving the football early on. The Cobras blocked an Express punt and recovered the ball at the 1 yard line. With 6:41 remaining in the 3rd the Cobras found the end zone through the air connecting on a 1 yard pass for their first touchdown of the game. The kick was good and the score was 28-10, where it remained to end the third quarter. Javon Rowan scored his third touchdown of the game when he hauled in yet another Brandon Hanna pass this time from 24 yards out, Ditzler kick, making it 35-10. 

The Cobras answered back with a touchdown of their own from 8 yards out, kick was good and the score was 35-17 with 9:10 remaining in the game. Running back Bud Brown scored the final touchdown of the game on a 48 yard run, Ditzler kick to bring the final score to 42-17. Defensively for the Express Jake Johnson, Dajuan Smith, Daryk Maki and Jeff Biggie all recorded sacks for the Express with Ashton Jones and Tony D'Albora each hauling in an interception. The Express will be off this week but will travel to the West Virginia Smash on June 2nd. Game details will be posted the week of the game. GO EXPRESS! #COVATO56
