Erie Express Remain Undefeated

Cleveland,OH-Erie Express remained undefeated in GDFL play at 3-0 with our 56-18 victory Saturday in Cleveland. The Express traveled to Cleveland, OH to face the undefeated Cleveland Cobras (2-0) for first place in the Xtreme North Division on the line. Both teams came into the contest at 2-0 and were looking to remain undefeated.

Erie took the opening drive and marched down to the Cobras 4 yard line only to fumble it away. The Cobras recovered on the 10 yard line to end the first drive of the game. On Erie's second possession running back Bud Brown found the end zone from 12 yards out, the two point try was no good and the Express led 6-0 with 2:36 remaining in the first. The first quarter would end with Erie leading 6-0.

The Cobras answered that score on a 35 yard pass play, their two point try failed and the game was tied at 6 -6 with 13:35 remaining in the half. Brandon Hanna then connected with Corey McWilliams on a 35 yard pass, the two point try was no good and Erie lead 12-6 with 9:52 to play in the half. With :11 to play in the half Hanna found Matt Ogletree on a 15 yard TD pass, the two point try to Antonio Batista was good and Erie took a 20-6 lead into the half.

On their first possession of the second half ,the Cobras struck quickly on a 70 TD pass, the two point try was no good and the lead was cut 20-12. Brandon Hanna answered that TD with a 6 yard TD run, the two point try was no good and Erie extended the lead 26-12 with 7:47 left in the third. With 1:00 to play in the third quarter, running back Jerome Spikes punched it in from 1yard out, Hanna to McWilliams on the two point try to put Erie up 34-12 where the score remained to end the third.

On the Cobras next possession Express defensive back Melequawn Carson intercepted the Cobras QB and put the Express in great position to score again. Erie drove to the Cobras 12 yard line only to fumble the ball on an errant snap. The Cobras recovered the ball to stall another Erie drive in the red zone. Two plays later the Cobras were in the end zone on a 65 yard TD pass, the two point try was no good and Erie's lead was cut to 34-18. Brandon Hanna then found Bud Brown on a 26 yard strike followed by a two point pass to Koran Williams to make the score 42-18 with 8:27 left in the game. Express defensive back Jeff Ranson intercepted the Cobras QB and put the Express in great scoring position. Hanna ran in from 1 yard out then found Glen Conners on the two point try to make it 50-18 Express. Cam Sanders recovered a Cobras fumble right before the two minute warning. Hanna scored the final points of the game when he found the end zone for the third time of the night on a 16 yard run. The two point try was no good and the Express won 56-18.

The Express are off this week but will resume play on June 1st as we host the West Virginia Smash. Kickoff is set for 5 pm at Cathedral Prep Events Center, Admission for the game will be $5 with children 12 and under FREE. We hope to see you there. GO EXPRESS!
