Defending National Champions Erie Express fall to Baltimore Lightning

by GDFL Med

Baltimore, MD-The Baltimore Lightning defeated the number one team in the country Saturday at home in convincing fashion. The Erie Express suffered their  first loss since the 2019 season.

The Lightning jumped out early blocking a punt and recovering it in the end zone for the first score of the game. The 2 point try was no good and made the score 6-0.

Baltimore would again capitalize on special teams returning a punt to the 1 yard line only to punch it in the following play. A long punt return to the Express 11 would set up the Lightning's longest play of the day a 17yd TD pass for their final score of the game making it 18-0.

By the end of the first quarter, the Bolts were up 18-0 and looked unstoppable in all three phases of the game.

Quarterback Terron Page continues to show why he’s one of the best in the country throwing a touchdown to his favorite target, Will Fedd.

Fedd, with a touchdown today, has 5 touchdowns in the first 3 games of the season.  Page has now thrown  6 touchdowns and ran 3 touchdowns in the first 3 games alone.

The story of the day would be the Lightning defense, which has showed why it may very well be the very best in the country.  Led by star Defensive end Robert Garrett who had 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles and 2 forced fumbles in his GDFL debut.  Defensive back Frank Snead also added an interception as the Lightning defense smothered the Express offense all game.

The Express would add two late scores in the fourth quarter, but the damage had already done and the Lightning would end the game victorious 18-14.

“This was the biggest game in our franchise’s history.  I hope we’ll be saying that a lot this season.  Proud of my guys on a big one, but our goal is to get to Vegas!” -Will Hanna, President/GM of the Baltimore Lightning.

The Lightning at 3-0, take a commanding lead in the GDFL’s Extreme North Division.  They have a bye next week and will a rematch with the Cleveland Rams in Baltimore on June 25th.
