Crush advance to Conference title for the 2nd straight season

Macon, GA-The Georgia Crush took care of business Saturday against the Alabama Sabers with a 22 to 16 victory. This match-up appeared to be an offensive powerhouse match-up as the stage was set with 2 GDFL All Pro QBs Marcus Brooks (Crush) and Carl Davis (Sabers).

The Crush landed the first blow with a muffed punt return which turned into a touchdown (6) and a early lead. The game Sabers struck back on the ensuing series with and impressive drive capped by a 3 yard Carl Davis touchdown run and a 2-point conversion (8).

Whoever said defense wins championships was correct, the Crush stalled out on a few consecutive series, it became a game of inches. Special teams played a significant role for the Crush, after another 3 and out, the punt pinned the Sabers on their own 1-yard line. The Crush special teams carried the game early on and the scoreboard reflected the exceptional play.

A team that was counted out early in the season was hungry and motivated to return to the conference championship game for the 2nd year straight. The Crush defense punished the Sabers all night causing mistakes after mistake and misstep after misstep. The Crush defense caused confusion upfront early forcing the Sabers to function differently. The Crush continued to dominate, intercepting the ball and returning it for touchdown (14) and a 14-8 halftime lead. 

Defense, Defense, Defense… 

The game was physical for both offenses; however, the Crush played smart football and didn’t give away points. Midway through the 3rd Quarter the Crush Defense would strike again with another interception for touchdown and a 2-point conversion (22). The Sabers now down 14-points would again rely on their fast paced offense to strike fast with the game nearing the pivotal 4th quarter. A Sabers would score decrease the Crush lead to 6-points, and a score 22-16.

In the last minutes of the 4th Quarter, the Sabers defense stepped up big just as they had done all game forcing a fumble and the recovery. The Sabers offense now ready to capitalize on one last drive moved efficiently and quickly into position to for a late score and a lead. The Crush, however still carried the intense motivation and hunger for GDFL glory that captured the early lead. The Cruch again rose to the occasion forcing another turnover. With a late lead, the Crush put the ball in the hands of quarterback Marcus Brooks looking to ice the game with a clock-burning, game-ending drive. He accomplished his goals and the Crush are headed back to the GDFL's Xtreme Conference Championship game.
