Cobras Take Down Smash

Morgantown,WV-The Cleveland Cobras improved their record to 2-0 after Saturday’s thrilling 26-20 victory over the West Virginia Smash in Morgantown, WV. Both teams came into the contest with perfect records and were hungry to keep those records blemish free. Cobras rookie QB John Kendeares had an amazing night racking up 205 yards of total offense. John finished the night 12/24 for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns and added another 41 yards rushing. Jerry Cecil hauled in two of the touchdowns and added 78 yards on 3 receptions with Odell Spencer bringing home the third touchdown and 49 yards on 3 receptions. 

The Cobras made plays in all aspects of the game with Emmit Calhoun returning a kickoff 97 yards. On defense Jay Powell recovered a Smash fumble,  Kevin Fortsen, Dee Lawson, Paul Magbie and Ron Smith all recorded interceptions. Ron Smith’s proved to be the game winner as he returned it for a Cobras touchdown.

The Smash played a great game and intercepted the Cobras 3 times themselves but it just was not their day as they dropped to 1-2 on the 2019 season.

The Cobras host the defending Xtreme East Division Champion Erie Express this Saturday. Erie comes into the contest at 2-0 on the season and undefeated in GDFL play with wins over the Howard Huskies 42-0 and the WNY Mustangs 34-20. Kickoff is set for 7pm at Brooklyn, HS. Admission is $5 at the gate with children 12 and under FREE!
