Bulldawgs Score On Back To Back Offensive Plays To Return  Xtreme Conference Championship Game

NASHVILLE- The Middle Tennessee Bulldawgs (9-0) defeated the Tri-City Outlaws (4-5) 12-6 in a game that was continued after being postponed due to a torrential downpour this past Saturday. With 1:57 left in the first half, Bulldawg defensive back Randall “Bay Bay” Smith scored from the “Dawg-Cat” position on the first play from scrimmage. His run of 17 yards tied the game.

“I am here to make plays when my number is called,” said Smith. We practiced it and I was happy that we tried it on first down.”

The Outlaws then took over but Middle Tennessee defensive back Chris “Kali” Perkins intercepted a Dominque White pass and ran it back 33 yards to the Outlaw 27 yard line. On first down, Bulldawg quarterback Jeremie “Bird” Whitaker called a run-pass option and found wide receiver Tyran Moore wide open for a touchdown.

Both defenses took over the second half shutting out each offense. Perkins ended the game with two interceptions, six pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Smith had an interception to close the game and added five pass breakups.

“With both teams having to come back and play three days later we knew as a defense we had to step up,” said Perkins. Our defense has been playing well the whole season. We will have to do it again on Saturday.”

For the second straight year, Middle Tennessee will have to take the 11 hour ride to Erie, Pennsylvania to take on the Erie Express. The winner will go on to the National Championship, Gridiron Bowl X.
