by GDFL Media

WHITTIER, Calif. (April 17, 2021) -- After a year and a half layoff from the world shutting down sports due to the Covid Pandemic, the Inglewood Blackhawks finally got back to doing what they love which is, playing football.
They kicked off their 2021 Gridiron Developmental Football League GDFL West (LDFL) season with a thrilling double overtime victory over the previously unbeaten Beach City Giants by the score of 12-6. Defensive back and former arena league star, Shaine Boyle intercepted a Beach City pass and rambled 94 yards for a the winning touchdown.Boyle chipped in a sack as well to complete an awesome day of football. Dual threat athlete, Devin Gage also had a huge day on both sides of the ball where he made an early bid for catch of the year when he skied over two Beach City defenders for a 27 yard touchdown from QB Les Obie.
On defense, Gage had a phenomenal day with two interceptions returning one 98 yards to the Giants 5 yard line. DE Trae Bickham led all Blackhawk defenders with 8 tackles, three of those going for a loss. Offensively the Blackhawks looked like an opening week team but there were so may signs of greatness that showed. Both Obie and Robert Fuller Sr looked as if they can change the outcome of a game once the team gets it's chemistry together. "This was our first day in pads so considering the situation we were in, I'll take an ugly W", stated Blackhawk HC Tony Reid. We have some things we need to get better at and we need to do it quick because we have a solid Coyotes team coming to town next week and we need to prepare for them. Kickoff is set for 7PM at Covina District Stadium.

Unfortunately, there will be no fans allowed at this game due to County and State regulations at this time. If anything changes between now and Saturday, we will post it here on our website. We apologize for the inconvenience.
