Erie Takes Down Buffalo

Buffalo, NY-Allen Jones took the opening kickoff back 88yds for a score only to have the TD called back due to a holding penalty. The Spartans held the Express to 3 and out forcing a punt. On the return the Spartans fumbled and it was recovered by Dan Rodrigues giving the Express excellent field position.

Erie struck first when Jones scored from 3 yards out with the two point try being no good making the score 6-0 Express in the 1st quarter. Erie drove to the Spartan 15 only to fumble the ball ending the first quarter with the score 6-0 Express.

The Spartans answered back scoring their only touchdown of the day on an 85yd pass play in the second quarter with their 2pt try being no good to make the score 6-6.


Quarterback Brandon Hanna then connected with Javon Rowan from 10yds out to make it 12-6 with the 2pt try being no good. Hanna connected with Terry Jackson from 15yds out and again on the 2pt try to make it 20-6 to end the half.

The second half was all Express as Hanna connecting two more times with Rowan from 35 and 17yds as well as a 2pt try to make the final 34-6.


The defense once again played outstanding with Dan Rodrigues and Brandon Akins recovering fumbles from the Spartans, Dajuan Smith, Daryk Maki and Jake Johnson all recorded sacks for the Express.

The Express will be home this week against the Cleveland Cobras in the third annual Covato Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm at Gus Anderson Field. Tickets are $5 per adult, children 12 and under are free and any McDowell student wearing any McDowell gear will be admitted for $2.
