Efficient Dawgs Defuse Chargers

Middle Tennessee scores on all seven possessions to get second consecutive win.

NASHVILLE- The Middle Tennessee Bulldawgs (2-0) defeated the Midwest Chargers 49-0 in Gridiron Developmental Football League action in Nashville. The home standing Bulldawgs scored early and often on offense, then gave up negative yards on defense. “We have something to prove,” said Bulldawg head coach Cromwell Stewart. “Our guys feel disrespected so they have a chip on their shoulders. Our high powered offense was efficient and our defense was stifling.

The Chargers didn’t travel with a lot of numbers so they were overmatched before the game even started.” The Bulldawgs first drive featured big runs by running back Keon Bohannon and a big pass play from Zach Ducker to Stevie Hendricks for 25 yards. Ducker then hit Antwon Edmundson for nine yards. On the ensuing kickoff, special teams star Jason Fennell forced a fumble that was recovered by Jamalik Rogers. On the first play from scrimmage, Bohannon scored from 21 yards out to make it 14-0 with 9:49 left in the first quarter.

And the route was on. “We needed to play good on all phases of the game and we did,” said Bohannon. “Our defense is our bread and butter. It was good to see the offense clicking and special teams to make plays.” Wide receiver Corvon Booker scored a touchdown in his first career catch as a Bulldawg. Edmondson scored again from 33 yards out. Wide receiver Stevie Hendricks scored on a highlight reel run from 14 yards out and receiver mate Darryl Clack finished out the scoring with touchdown catches from 14 and 15 yards out.

The Bulldawgs will take the Memorial Day weekend off before traveling to Birmingham to take on the Alabama Sabers on June 2nd. This will be their first road trip in the GDFL. “Playing on the road is never easy,” said Stewart. We are looking forward to resting up a bit and get ready for a tough Saber team. We know they will give us their best shot.”
